Time to Give

One of the many things I'm enjoying about being a Realtor® is I have the time to give back. During the pandemic I helped deliver boxes of donated food to immunocompromised families or those facing hardship as a result of Covid-19. I enjoyed this so much that when the organization ended I sought out other opportunities. Since June, I've been volunteering with a church on Allison Hill to deliver food to low-income families in our community. And now, this past Saturday I had the pleasure of planting trees in Midtown, Harrisburg with Friends of Midtown (FOM). Standing proudly with one of our new trees at Green and Herr Streets. The whole thing started back in April 2018 when the beautiful cherry blossom tree in front of my little house on Penn Street had to go. This tree was one of the reasons I loved my house. It provided lots of shade, privacy, and a delightful rain shower of pink petals every spring. But the tree wasn't a good fit for city life and started to become a hazar...

Home Heating Oil Tanks

For my first true content post, it would make sense to pick something easy. But that's not how I like to do things. So not only did I pick a difficult topic, but I chose the really un-sexy topic of home heating oil tanks. Let's dig in... Living in the Northeastern US, I've encountered many home heating oil tank situations in my real estate adventures. They are something that I often tried to avoid if at all possible. All I knew about them in my naive, earlier days was that heating oil was expensive and you have to worry about leaks. While I'm not claiming to be an expert now, I do know that there is much more to the story. But before we get to that, let's start at the beginning. Brief History In the early days, wood and coal were used as primary home heating fuels. Natural gas emerged in the early 19th century and oil heaters appeared in the early 1920's. An Introduction

The Carriage House Well folks, I've finally done it - started a blog! This thing has been incubating for almost a decade at this point but I've always been hesitant to pull the trigger. I've never attempted a blog before, but I imagine it's similar to having a houseplant. It needs to be watered, pruned, fertilized, and regularly tended. Spoiler alert: I have about a 50% success rate with houseplants. So no promises here, but I'm going to try my best to keep this thing alive. First a little bit about how I got here on my journey... Back in 2005, I was living in a tiny apartment in the now restored Riverview Manor . My rent was only $450 a month including utilities! Life was good but I'm a fixer, reformer, and problem solver at heart and I needed something to tinker with and call my own.
